Legendary Prosecutor Gene Rossi Marks Steve Descano as “Perfect Choice” to be Next Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – Gene Rossi, 27-year veteran prosecutor and expert on criminal litigation, has endorsed Steve Descano to be the next leader of the criminal justice system in Fairfax County. Rossi is a skilled legal expert who, as an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, worked on over 110 federal trials, including an unprecedented 90 jury trials. Rossi’s status as a standard-bearer for legal excellence further validates Steve as an experienced and committed public servant and prosecutor.
In his own words, Rossi stated, “For close to thirty years, I worked with and mentored over a thousand U.S. Justice Department prosecutors. I had the honor and privilege to work with Steve Descano, when we both were in the Eastern District of Virginia. I was and am greatly impressed by his phenomenal devotion to public service and criminal justice, as well as his superb credentials, including West Point, Army helicopter pilot, law review, and his years as a federal prosecutor. Steve exemplifies duty, honor, and country. And as the next Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County, he will use those strong character traits in administering justice with fairness, compassion, and integrity. As I have said many times over the years, a prosecutor must never be wedded to old and tired standards that were once popular decades ago, yet are now incompatible with our shared progressive values and are simply stale. A prosecutor should always remain open to creative and bold approaches. Steve is the perfect choice. He will bring fresh ideas and ‘New Blood’ as Fairfax’s lead prosecutor. I proudly endorse Steve.”
This endorsement comes after two other high-profile endorsements of Steve’s progressive vision: former Governor Terry McAuliffe and State Senator Adam Ebbin. With Rossi’s endorsement, it is clear that Steve has the momentum going into the June 11th Democratic Primary.
Rossi currently works as an attorney for Carlton Fields, a prominent criminal and civil litigation firm in Washington, DC. Rossi is a frequent legal analyst for CNN, host of the “Gene Rossi Show” on WJFN 100.5 FM and teaches trial advocacy at Harvard Law School and constitutional law at George Mason University. In 2017, Rossi ran for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.
Steve lives in Burke with his wife of 15 years, Ryanne, and their daughter Charlotte, 7.
